A little surprised we didn’t at least receive a vote after the bowl game
The things that make Ole Miss fans eggcited…. “Others Receiving Votes: Ole Miss-1…….”
Bam!
Sorry that was uncalled for. I would delete it if I knew how. I am glad you beat IU and you gave us all we wanted. Might have been worried about losing the game vs y’all compared to any other game we played. SEC! SEC!
You should have gotten one from some of the idiots who kept Indiana at #12! I think they were #11 before you all beat them. The entire poll makes little sense once you get past #4!!!
Bama has beaten four of the top 10 teams in this poll (with three of them being in the top 5) by double-digits apiece…I’d say that is quite impressive.
I’d agree. Bama has been very impressive all year
That’s kinda what happens when you win the National Championship.
Not by double digits..
Really impressive. Roll Tide! SEC!
And so it begins, eight months of off-season speculation.
I would speculate that with JT Daniels, UGA could topple Notre Dame and maybe TAMU.
Probably would have beat Bama too
Ah yes…..if only Kirby hadn’t run off Justin Fields…and if a frog had wings….you know the rest.
Fields trash ge quality defense
A lot of smack talk from a perennial dumpster fire fan!
Biggie – so glad that Fromm and Stetson showed out better than Justin Fields did against Bama. Kirby wanted JF to stay. Fields saw playing time at Ohio State. Fromm was better than Kelley Bryant at Clemson and seeing his recruiting rival playing was hard for Fields. It is what it is. We were just as good or better off with Fromm.
Daniels couldn’t cut it in the PAC12. I think GA is in for a big disappointment. Can’t tell them that. They got to put their hope on someone
I would have put OK higher. They slaughtered Florida.
And just kind of gloss over the loss to Iowa State and 4-6 Kansas State? That kind of logic should put the Aggies at 2nd or 3rd in the final poll.
Well, you are 4 because of how you finished. Not how you started.
Just kind of funny a UGA fan pointing out a bad loss in a meaningless bowl game where half the team opted out against a big 12 team.
How many NC players opted out? I don’t know why this bothers you so.
My opinion is that OK was playing the it’s best at the end of the season.
I don’t have any agenda, just an opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Aggie, not sure how or why that’s funny. Why are you so emotionally invested ok Oklahoma’s ranking?
*in Oklahoma’s
boxster, most aTm and Mizzou fans hate anything that’s b12. Really happy to see Texas so dysfunctional firing good coaches every few years.
The SEC is the ONLY conference in the US worth a darn.
yeah, but they slaughtered a roster of players that had been gutted by opt-outs. that, and a coach that clearly didn’t come into that game focused or with a plan.
i think they’re solid at #6. nd’s two losses were to playoff teams and a&m’s loss was to the champ.
Who would you bet on if they played tomorrow?
You do realize A&M actually plays defense (as opposed to UF and most of the big 12)?
are you asking me about ok verse nd and ok verse a&m? if yes, i’d take ok over nd and a&m over ok.
if you’re asking me for a ranking of the best teams at the end of the season, that’s dif than the intention of the AP poll.
I guess my take is who is the better team today. Not over the season.
keeping focus to the three teams (a&m, nd and ok) as of the last game of the season, i’d rank them: a&m, ok and nd.
disclaimers:
– i think a&m is a more a complete team than people give them credit for. no stars on def, but they’re pretty fundamentally solid.
– ou has definitely made strides on the defensive side since riley took over, but they’re still a notch behind a&m and nd
– i ranked nd last of the three, but not by much. i think this was easily the best nd team that kelly has had. they would have beat his ’12 and ’18 teams with little struggle.
Florida was missing 9-10 starters and 15+ players overall. If you really think Oklahoma would’ve beat a fully loaded Florida team that was actually focused on playing that game, you’re a nut job. You’ve seen what a fully loaded UF team when they spotted GA a few TDs and still slapped them down.
The Florida/OU game showed why the playoff needs to be expanded to 8 teams and then do away with “New Years 6” bowls. Those bowl games from now on will be mostly boring due to all of the opt outs from those top teams. It’s a new era.
Another round of blowouts would have been great TV.
I’m not convinced that’s the way it would go. In most years, there’s a top team or two and then the rest. The biggest gap between teams is already the #1 – #4 game. Expanding the playoffs would bring in a few more teams closer to the current #3 and #4 teams and make some of those games more competitive.
I’d rather see teams play their best in a few bowls than see a lot of “meaningless” bowls where some of the best players are opting out.
“If you really think Oklahoma would’ve beat a fully loaded Florida team that was actually focused on playing that game, you’re a nut job.”
I believe OU could have beat a team that lost to 5 win LSU at home…
I mean Bama almost lost to Florida. Things happen in football. It’s clear because of a lack of by weeks, Mullen decided to sacrifice LSU to compete with Bama. Had Florida had a regular by week between the regular season and SEC Championship, Mullen would have probably had the squad focus more on LSU, and they would’ve probably blown them out. Bama saw for themselves how good that Florida squad was. The circumstances were just against them.
That’s stupid… Bama played a game as well before Florida… LSU is not a good team… Try some other excuse..
Gator fans are so quick to throw an asterisk on the bowl game, but never mention the injuries from Georgia during that game. LeCounte, Pickens, Cleveland, McIntosh, Rochester, and Jordan Davis didn’t even dress. Not counting the injuries during the game. It’s part of the game I know… so congrats on winning the East and your #13 ranking!
You’re exactly right, it’s part of the game. The loss of all those defensive pups and pencil stache Daniel’s “family doctor not letting him play” could have certainly changed the outcome. Just like if the Gators had their 2 most dominate edge rushers healthy the year prior, the outcome would likely by different. There’s always going to be players and plays to point at after-the-fact. Injuries and opt outs happen, next man up. No excuse for the bowl blowout. I don’t care if you’re thumb wrestling, you should compete to win.
IMHO, I enjoyed the BCS system and I’m not in favor of expanding the playoffs. But on the other hand, it is interesting how a 4-loss, #13 ranked team put up the toughest fight all year against #1.
No, it’s not really interesting that Florida played Bama close. Not every teams dominates the same way in every game, so reading into a close loss isn’t often meaningful. Florida also played LSU close last year. It seems like those two losses are the crowning achievement of Mullen’s tenure.
No, the Florida/OU game proved no such thing. And if you’re making excuses about your roster against OU then you immediately have to do the same regarding the player’s Georgia didn’t have in the WLOCP or that our (former 4th string) QB was injured in the 1st quarter.
Oklahoma would never have beaten a loaded UF team.
What is the excuse for the other 3 losses? Those players were not that good anyway. According to UF fans, Mac was only good because of the talent he had to throw to, and basically Trask did it on his own. You can not have it both ways.
That was Florida minus 8 starters.
If my rough math is correct, four P5 conferences got four teams in the poll and the PAC got one. The G5 got eight teams in. Pandemic poll.
Yeah, it’s going to be hard to put much stock in this poll.
For sure. There is some good play in the G5, especially out of the AAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt. But eight in the poll reflects a weird Covid season.
Valid point. LSU was not a good team at times this year. Often actually. But at the end of the year they would have beat half the teams in this poll. Easy.
I’m all-in on the top 9. I’d likely replace northwestern with byu for the top 10.
Loving how Floriduh’s “beat season in 11 years” ends with them outside the top-10 with four losses (three in a row).
I hope to God that Sideshow Dan the Clown never leaves Jortsville!
^ butt hurt
Yep. So butt-hurt I want Sideshow Dan the Clown to never leave.
2020 was a total blind squirrel year for the Floriduh ‘turds, and you don’t need to take my word for it, just look at how it ended.
This was no passing the torch or Cousin Eddie doing anything amazing.
2021 is back to business as usual.
He’s still sad that Georgia got beat by UF and still can’t win the big win.
One*
This is the first time I can remember that the previous year’s champion didn’t even receive a single vote in the final poll.
Doesn’t matter. LSU will be back strong. I see good things ahead for the entire conference(except Vandy). There are some really good coaches in this conference.
Yeah. At times this year LSU was not a good team. But at the end of the year they could have beat half the teams in this poll.
Saying the same thing over and over doesn’t make it true….
Off topic, but i just been wondering if tosu is going to like playing football after they learn how…………
You have to admit they really took it to Clemson. That was a butt kickin. They didn’t bring that intensity to the NCG.
Bama came out rested, focused, and ready to play. What a performance!
Who said Clemson was a good team.
Wish Florida hadn’t mailed in their bowl game. The Florida team that Alabama beat in the SECCG was far more dangerous than either playoff opponent, and would have beaten them both.
Florida’s defense wasn’t good enough. Especially the secondary. Crazy thing is that tosu gave up more numbers to Smith in a half than Florida’s secondary did all game. Which is real surprising. Florida’s secondary is used to seeing those offenses regularly and Ohio State rarely sees them in that clown league they’re in.
…logical as saying the UGa team that was the only team this year to lead Bama for a half was far more dangerous…just because UF was an awkward matchup for Bama doesn’t mean they would have been for OSU, Clem or for that matter LSSHOE…
Yeah I never understand the logic of “we played you closer so we’re better”…
Florida lost 4 games with one being to a very bad LSU team… Theu deserved what they got… Nothing…
They can always claim that they played the national champion way tougher than any other team and you can’t take that away. Just cause the circumstances were against Florida doesn’t mean they “deserved what they got” chill. Florida had 8 straight SEC matches with no byweeks were in a regular season they would have had 2 byweeks in that span, as well as some trash Division 2 team to play around with. If this had been a regular season Florida would have likely gone 12-1 and likely gone to the playoffs because they would have not played TAMU who was scheduled because of Covid. This is why I have no respect for the AP Poll. You really gonna rank BYU, and especially Indiana who literally just lost to a unranked team in their bowl game!!! And Indiana was only missing Penix not basically all their starters like Florida!
Look it up there is no team in the SEC or in the country as a matter of fact that played 8 games, much the less, 8 SEC games, in a row like ever. You could argue that Florida played 9 games in a row because the bowl game only offered them 3 extra days off which ended up becoming the days of practice. Who knows if the Cotton Bowl was scheduled in January 1st like the other NY6 bowls, Florida’s JV squad might’ve played slightly more respectfully but we will never know.
Oh we know, they wouldn’t have played more respectably…
BTW App St did a Florida and took the month of October off causing lot of other teams to reshuffle their schedules as well, but then played basically 9 games in a row, plus or minus a few days at bowl game time, but don’t let facts get in the way of your point…
I wonder if Florida fans will be making this many excuses all off season.
You’re just a walking excuse… You’re right though Florida didn’t deserve what they got… They shouldn’t have been in a NY6 to start with….
The greatest 4 loss team ever… LMAO
It’s also not uncommonly for teams to play 8 games in a row.. Bama did it in 18 and that wasn’t the first time…
You have no clue what you’re talking about..
Who I forgot it’s “Bama Time.” Yeah go kiss your sister or something I didn’t even notice it was you. You’re the guy that uses the “you’re a walking excuse” term to make yourself look smart. You make Georgia fans look intelligent that’s so sad.
And you’re the guy that just posts incorrect statements as facts…
LSU was not good at times this year but was much improved at the end of the year
They play Bama the week prior to Florida and got blown out… So they improved that much in a week?
Three pre-season bets regarding this final poll that could have won you a lot of $$$:
State with the most ranked teams (Indiana), and the highest-ranked teams from the states of Louisiana (Louisiana-Lafayette) and Virginia (Liberty).
These people that want to continuously try to advance the narrative that these G-5 teams are actually as good as they rank them just make themselves look like idiots.
“#5 Notre Dame”
Unbelievable. I stopped reading right there. No way in hell they are even a top 10 team.
Most people stop reading at “The Scribe”…..
Except you, because you read it all. Only problem is, you’re to stupid to respond substantively to anything I write. But you respond to all of it, with your drivel. Alabamans should be ashamed of you.
too stupid, not to stupid.
Maybe you are TOO stupid
Coach O is a clown. Dumb as a box of rocks. Can you say bowl ban?
