AP Top 25, Week 6: Alabama takes No. 1 spot for first time in Kalen DeBoer era
The AP Top 25 for Week 6 has been released.
The SEC once again has 9 teams in the poll this week, including 4 of the top 5 spots.
Alabama is No. 1 this week following its instant-classic win over Georgia on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. This is the Tide’s first appearance at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 since the 2022 season. Alabama has had at least 1 week at No. 1 in the AP Poll in 16 of the last 17 seasons.
Following the loss, Georgia slid down to No. 5. No. 2 Texas an No. 4 Tennessee are the other SEC teams who cracked the top 5.
Elsewhere around the league, Oklahoma, LSU and Missouri all moved up this week. Ole Miss fell from No. 6 to No. 12 following its stunning home loss to Kentucky over the weekend. Texas A&M is tied with UNLV at No. 25 this week.
The Big Ten had a strong week with Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Michigan and USC all picking up comfortable wins. The Buckeyes remain the highest-ranked team in this league at No. 3, but Penn State and Oregon also maintained top-10 rankings this week. The Wolverines also moved up a couple spots to No. 10 following their Week 5 victory over Minnesota.
Further down the board, Indiana jumped into the top 25 this week for the first time since the 2021 season when the Hoosiers were ranked No. 17 to start the year. Illinois did tumble down the rankings after its loss to Penn State, but the Illini remained in the top 25 at No. 24.
IU’s inclusion gives the Big Ten a total of 7 ranked teams this week.

I told you so!
Champions of September! Again! Who you gonna call?
I told you so!
I’m thinking we probably need to call our recruits.
And tell them to be in Athens on November 5th when the Champions of Life come to town.
You didn’t tell me anything crusty. Champions of September. Congratulations!
Five star hearts. Call ‘em.
Georgia vs Texas and Georgia vs UT-Knox and Bama vs UT-Knox will shape the playoff race.
The top 5 could remain the same the rest of the year shuffled.
Now that Ole Miss was exposed, I agree.
Fantasy. Georgia is a poorly coached team who historically chokes and who will continue to fall down to their historical and rightful place at 5th, 6th in the SEC. This is the first year they have had a real SEC schedule and 4 games in they already choked. The arc of reality bends toward normalcy. Enjoy your denouement.
Yep, Georgia is the a poorest coached team that has won 2 Championships in the last 4 years.
Oh no! Double0 accidentally slipped and fell from the traaaaiin! He will be missed.
Screen shotted.
Best to just keep reposting it, but not before you call your recruits.
You’re just giving the ID10T what he wants: attention.
Psomf fosidfm purumpfadumpf. Ewww! Looks like PlateauVol slipped and got run over by the train!. He will be missed.
Yep, polls are just people’s opinions at this point. It will all be determined on the field.
So Ole Miss plays a bunch of tomato cans and then loses at home to a mediocre team and they are still 13th. Voters just can’t get beyond their preconceived pre season view of teams.
Exactly. Just look at Pac 12 Alabama. They choked away a 4 TD lead against a poorly coached and perennially Choking Georgia squad and now they are the best team in college football.
Texas has played NOBODY and they get to bounce around the top 3
I wouldn’t say beating Michigan at Michigan is playing nobody. There haven’t been many big time matchups so far this year so that win is one of the better ones. Ole Miss lost their only game against a team with a pulse and Texas won theirs so there is no comparison.
The team you call mediocre should have beaten the Dawgs had it not been for a wrongly overturned pick 6. That same mediocre team will continue to make plenty of noise the rest of the year.
First time I’m hearing it was wrongfully overturned. I’m sure it’s being spewed somewhere.
I didn’t say a bad team just mediocre. You can point to the UGA game but I can point to the USC game where they were terrible. So yes they are a middle of the pack SEC team at best.
Who you calling mediocre p u n k.
Is it possible to mute or block other users? I’m just tired of filtering through comments past voltrain conductors.
Yes. You can stop posting unintelligent drivel and do something more productive with your time like calling your recruits to beg them not to leave.
Have you booked your tickets to Tampa yet?
We have booked a few official visits for your recruits.
1998.
Yours too.
I don’t think you can. I think the best option is not to respond to troll posts. This site, and all sites, have them. Sometimes the troller is fan of the team they claim, sometimes not. There’s no reason to let it get under your skin, since that may be the only think they live for.
Regardless, there will be a lot of jockeying around the next several weeks as several SEC clashes between teams currently ranked in the top 10 take place. For this Vol fan, it’s nice to be relevant gain after 15 years in the wilderness.
You guys were number one two years ago. I’d call that relevant.
You are correct, Bear. Good post.
Ooooh Bear. PlateauVol is a known phag and he’s got his eye on you.
I bet that mouth don’t run like that in person. Come on up to the plateau, b1tch.
Calm down. You are suffering from BVS and your effeminate identity is crying out. Best to let it pass. Unfortunately, we cannot stop and you will have to catch up later if we hit a snag.
Oh it’s not under my skin. It’ll just literally be like 10 straight posts of his, and trying to find who is actually commenting something worth it is getting difficult.
The answers to all your problems are contained herein. Read slowly. You have coaching issues.
Meaningless at this time. Though it is a nice comeback to the haters when you can say you have been #1 at some time in the season every year but one since 2008, that one would be last season. Though that is all it is, a nice comeback.
I guess with their star QB quitting the team over money he was not contractually owed UNLV is way down in the receiving votes area.
Why is Ohio St 3rd and not 5th? They have played and beaten NOBODY. Tennessee beat OK on the road and GA pummeled Clemson. Ohio St getting a free pass for a joke of a schedule. I know it doesn’t really mean squat until November but come on.
Because they are Ohio State. Remember in 2020 when the BIG10 changed their rules twice after the season began in order to get OSU in the playoffs so they could be destroyed by Bama?
Oh yes, I remember.
The voters tend to be a fickle bunch. Aggies with our backup QB beat Arky and almost drop out of the top 25. It’s all a bit hilarious at this point.
Wait. You’re bragging about beating Arky, a team that may well be getting rid of their head coach at the end of the season?
You found some kind of bragging in that? Good grief.
I would have chosen different examples of “somebody”/Clemson has been broken since Ohio State pummeled them in the 2020 playoffs (remember when they were the 11th-ranked team according to Dabo). Oklahoma is Oklahoma. A good team, but nothing like they were 20 years ago.
The rankings really don’t matter other than giving us something to talk about. The 4 top-ranked conference champs will get in with a bye. So in theory a conference champ could be 8th or even 15th overall, but if they are one of the top 4 among conference champs they are in. Then the 12 spot goes to the top-ranked G5 champion. In theory, they could be outside the top 25. So some crazy stuff could happen. You could be the #4 ranked team overall, and get bumped by a lesser-ranked team because you don’t win your conference. Then that 12 spot could be crazy too. Definitely could be the 12th-best team, and get bumped by the highest-ranked G5 Team. Look at today’s rankings (if it were the committee) the top 4 would be Bama, Ohio State, Miami, and Iowa State. In that order. Then it would be 5 Texas, 6 Tenn, 7 Ga, 8 Oregon, 9 Penn State, 10 Missouri, 11 Michigan 12 BYU
