It’s always nice to have a superstar in the backfield, but oftentimes it’s even better to have a by-committee approach where more than one running back touches the ball on a weekly basis.

Athlon Sports took a close look at every roster throughout the country to determine which teams have the best overall running back units, putting together a strong list of the top 50 heading into the 2016 season. Depth, overall talent, production, level of competition and projected output all factored into the rankings.

Surprisingly enough, only five SEC teams make an appearance — though three reside in the top 10 alone with one leading the entire FBS.
