On the field, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel are very similar players — both undersized, both Heisman Trophy winners and both electric athletes.

However, Mayfield is trying to distance himself from Manziel when it comes to off-field reputation. Manziel had a few off-field incidents during his short NFL career, and Mayfield wants to convince NFL teams he can avoid those.

As you can see in this interview with NFL.com at this week’s Senior Bowl, Mayfield said he just wants to show NFL scouts his love for the game this weekend:

“Everyone wants to portray the bad boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff,” he says. “But no, I love the game of football. There’s no doubt about that. I’m an emotional player, I’ll do anything it takes to win. I love being around my teammates and being a leader.”

He said he doesn’t get too worried about what comparisons are being made, since it’s not something he can control:

“If I paid too much attention to it, I’d be focusing on the wrong things,” he said. “I came down here to play the game and show them I love playing.”

Mayfield could potentially work his way into the first round if he has a strong pre-draft showing, so this week’s Senior Bowl action in Mobile will be very important.
