A story that’s gathered steam in recent days became official on Friday as the Big 12 officially announced membership invitations to 4 schools.

The Big 12 Conference Board of Directors voted to extend membership invitations to Brigham Young University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Houston to join the conference.

Today’s actions were in accordance with the Big 12 Conference bylaw that requires an affirmative vote of a supermajority of directors, and was approved unanimously by the 8 continuing members.

Of course, this follows the July announcement from Oklahoma and Texas about their intention to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, and the official moves that followed with bylaws and interest from the SEC. The Big 12 has been interested in adding members since those blue bloods left, and conference officials moved quickly in recent days to make it official.
