The Early Signing Period ends Friday, but most of the best gifts have been shipped, wrapped and delivered.

How will we remember the first two days?

Here’s the biggest takeaway for every SEC team.

Alabama

Run da ball? The Tide failed to sign a top-20 running back for the first time since 2010. There’s still time, but there are only three uncommitted 4-star RBs left and the Tide aren’t leading the race for any, including Harold Joiner; LSU is considered the prohibitive favorite to land the Birmingham standout.

Arkansas

Chad Morris only signed 10 players Wednesday, but one was 4-star QB Connor Noland, the fifth-ranked QB headed to the SEC. Given Morris’ ability to build offenses around his QB, that’s not a bad place to start.

Auburn

Joey Gatewood is 6-5, 230 and listed as an athlete, but there’s no question where Gus Malzahn will play him. “Joey Gatewood is the closest thing to Cam Newton, physically, that I’ve seen,” Malzahn told the SEC Network. “He can run. He can throw. He’s a big-time athlete.”

The best part? Auburn will get Gatewood for multiple years.

Florida

Did Dan Mullen just solve Florida’s long-standing quarterback quandary? In short order, he got 4-star Emory Jones to flip from his Ohio State commitment and then held off a late charge from Florida State.

Georgia

Have yourself a day, Kirby Smart. The Dawgs reeled in a nation-best six 5-stars, including QB Justin Fields. Getting them is one thing; keeping them all happy and busy will be Smart’s biggest challenge moving forward. That will be especially true with Fields, considering Jake Fromm doesn’t appear to be an early entrant candidate for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Kentucky

Mark Stoops is quietly building a beast in the trenches. He added two more 4-star offensive linemen Wednesday, both from the heart of the Big Ten. In 2016, Stoops’ top two signees were 4-star OL: starters Landon Young and Drake Johnson. Stoops then addressed skill positions by signing seven players from Broward County in South Florida, including three from 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna.

LSU

Ed Orgeron added three more 4-star skill players and hinted at more to come. Among the biggest difference-makers still available? Patrick Surtain, a 5-star corner from Broward County, Terrace Marshall, a 5-star WR and No. 1-ranked player in Louisiana, and Joiner, the top-ranked running back in Alabama. According to 247Sports.com’s crystal ball, LSU is the favorite to land all three.

Mississippi State

Nick Fitzgerald will enjoy Christmas and rehab knowing the Bulldogs’ three highest-rated signees Wednesday were all big, 4-star receivers. Devonta Jason, 6-2, 205, is the smallest of the bunch.

Missouri

First order of business, after stopping by the registrar’s office and checking into the dorm, will be finding the weight room. Five of Mizzou’s seven highest-rated signees weigh less than 191 pounds. All five are 3-star skill position players.

Ole Miss

The numbers weren’t great — No. 35 overall, No. 12 in the SEC — but Matt Luke signed a couple of potential short-term program-savers in 4-star QB Matt Corral and 4-star WR Elijah Moore. Both were late flips, too; Corral from Florida and Moore from Georgia.

South Carolina

Nobody is expecting Jake Bentley to leave early after the 2018 season, but Will Muschamp addressed the possibility anyway, adding 4-star, in-state, dual-threat QB Dakereon Joyner to the mix Wednesday. Joyner is much more athlete than pure passer at this point, but South Carolina’s Mr. Football already is on board with any role that gets him on the field.

Tennessee

So legacy recruit Cade Mays left town. That loss stings, but Jeremy Pruitt landed a pair of 4-star, in-state nose tackles and a 4-star, in-state offensive tackle to help soften the blow. With only 12 players signed, Pruitt has the time and room to add key pieces. Alontae Taylor, a 4-star WR from Manchester, Tenn., is scheduled to sign Friday.

Texas A&M

This is new: Texas A&M didn’t add a coveted QB Wednesday (or even a QB). FSU fans are angry that Jimbo Fisher essentially stopped recruiting during his final month in Tallahassee. His first month in College Station wasn’t appreciably better.

Ouch.

Vanderbilt

Derek Mason signed three 4-stars Wednesday. That might draw yawns in other corners of the conference, but that total matches the number of 4-stars Vandy signed in its previous three recruiting classes combined. There’s no such thing as a bad day in Nashville, but Wednesday’s haul had to make lunch at Hattie B’s taste even better than usual.
