Biggest surprises of Week 10

Week in and week out, players and teams surprise us with their performances. We saw several surprises this weekend with an incredible slate of conference games.

Who or what made our cut of the biggest surprises of Week 10?

Florida: Did anybody recognize that team in orange and blue on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville? Kelvin Taylor and Matt Jones combined for nearly 400 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Gators’ backfield carried them all game long en route to 445 yards of total offense and 38 points. The defense played well, with its confidence growing as the game worn on. Welcome back, you boys of Ol’ Florida.

Steve Spurrier’s postgame reaction: South Carolina inexplicably lost to Tennessee in overtime Saturday night inside Williams-Brice Stadium. What ensued was nothing short of disgraceful. Spurrier made an opening statement to the media, then did not answer questions. Spurrier is one of the greatest coaches in SEC history, and has done a great job at South Carolina. But he owed it, not only to the media, but to his players and South Carolina fans to answer questions about this loss — the latest in a string of “what just happened?” games for the Gamecocks.

Texas A&M’s performance: Things might be getting a little uncomfortable for Kevin Sumlin in College Station. The Aggies underwhelmed in the win over Louisiana-Monroe. Myles Garrett was the only bright spot for A&M, recording 3.5 sacks. The offense continued to struggle, with fans calling for both Jake Spavital and Mark Snyder’s jobs. Things are far from the season-opening win at South Carolina.

Arkansas again comes up short: Bret Bielema’s team had its chances again this week in Starkville versus No. 1 Mississippi State. The Hogs find ways to lose close games in the SEC, and you have to wonder how that is beginning to take a toll on their mental makeup. Arkansas still has games against LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri. Can Brandon Allen and company find a way to get a win?
