The “SEC on CBS” crew of Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson, and Jamie Erdahl will be on hand in Athens on Saturday as No. 1 Georgia entertains No. 11 Kentucky at Sanford Stadium.
The Bulldogs are a big favorite to beat the Wildcats and appear a sure bet to not only run the table and make the SEC Championship Game but find themselves in the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, a Playoff mainstay in Alabama can’t afford a 2nd loss down the stretch or its own CFP hopes will vanish.
However, Nessler feels that the national championship game will ultimately be a clash between Nick Saban and Kirby Smart as it was after the 2017 season.
“I still think it’s Georgia-Alabama. I’m gonna be honest with you,” Nessler said on Friday, according to AL.com. “I think Alabama will move their way up to No. 2. Georgia stays at No. 1. In December, we’ll see what happens in Atlanta (in the SEC Championship Game).”
What about other Playoff hopefuls like Iowa, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma?
“They play well on both sides of the ball, but I’m not buying Iowa yet,” Nessler said. “Cincinnati is an awesome story because that would be nice if someone outside the Power 5 made the final four. I’m not buying Oklahoma even though they are undefeated. I think they are going to get beat.”
