Brett Yormark and the Big 12 are reportedly investigating conference expansion opportunities as the college landscape continues to change. However, one institution has not been in contact with Yormark or the Big 12 despite previous reporting.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Yormark has directly refuted previous reports that the Big 12 has been having discussions with Memphis:
“I’ve never met with anyone at Memphis about adding them to the Big 12, nor have I been on campus,” said Yormark per Thamel.
Just spoke to Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark about the multiple reports that the Big 12 has met with Memphis: “I’ve never met with anyone at Memphis about adding them to the Big 12, nor have I been on campus.”

While Yormark directly referenced Memphis, there have been other reports that Yormark is indeed targeting some prominent basketball programs for the Big 12. Those reports indicated Yormark has been targeting Gonzaga and UConn with the Huskies reportedly in the mix as an all-sports addition to the conference.
We’ll see if Yormark provides any comments or responses to those reports, but for now he’s at least clarified reports regarding Memphis.
