The SEC landed 2 offensive coordinators among the 5 finalists for the Broyles Award, the annual award given to the top assistant coach in college football.
Georgia’s Todd Monken and Tennessee’s Alex Golesh were named as finalists on Monday, along with Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters, Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and TCU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley.
The five finalists are invited to travel to Little Rock, Arkansas, on Dec. 5-6 where the 2022 Broyles Award winner will be announced at the Statehouse Convention Center.
Monken’s offense is averaging 38.2 points per game (12th nationally) and 488.8 yards per contest (eighth nationally) through the Bulldogs’ undefeated start this season. Georgia leads the country in red zone offense as well, and has scored on 64 of 66 opportunities with 43 touchdowns.
Tennessee, meanwhile, has scored 30-plus points in 11 of its 12 games and has eclipsed 500 yards of total offense nine times this season.
The Vols lead the country in scoring at 47.3 points per game, nearly a full 3 points ahead of second-place Ohio State (44.5). The Vols are also No. 1 nationally in total offense, averaging 538.1 yards per game, and lead the country in yards per play (7.35), passing efficiency rating (181.59) and rushing touchdowns (39).
