Bruce Feldman names four SEC assistants as candidates for USF job
South Florida could potentially dip into the SEC for its next head coach.
Fox Sports college football reporter Bruce Feldman lists Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and offensive line coach Mario Cristobal as possible candidates for the new vacancy, along with Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins and Kentucky play-caller Eddie Gran.
Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong, Ohio State DC Greg Schiano, and Florida State assistant Lawrence Dawsey are also names to watch.
Though several reports have indicated that USF could already have strong interest in Kiffin, all of these coaches would likely end up doing well in Tampa.
Feldman touched on the likelihood of Kiffin-USF marriage as well:
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who has strong ties to Florida and Tampa in particular, would seem like a very plausible option for the Bulls. He’s been instrumental in helping Nick Saban keep the Tide on top of the college football world despite having three consecutive years breaking in new QBs.
Folks inside the business have pointed out in the past week that Kiffin seems to make a lot more sense at USF than he would at Houston, where there’s some concern with how the powerful Texas high school coaches would react to him as the Cougars’ coach.
