In a game featuring two of the top quarterback prospects in the country, Gunner Stockton, a recent South Carolina commit, and his team, Rabun County, knocked off Georgia commit Brock Vandagriff and Prince Avenue Christian on Friday night in a 5-star duel that drew a national TV audience on ESPNU.

Stockton showed off some personality back backpedaling in for the second touchdown of the game before he spiked the ball and celebrated with teammates. Then Vandagriff responded. After falling behind 14-0, the Wolverines got on the board when Vandagriff (who came into the game with 7,660 career offensive yards and 99 total touchdowns) hit Zac Dyer on a 43-yard pass early in the second quarter, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

In the third quarter, Vandagriffnhooked up with Logan Johnson for two touchdowns, the first on a 14-yard pass and the second on a 25-yard pass. Rabun County’s winning score came on a 32-yard pass from Stockton to Adriel Clark.

MaxPreps noted that Stockton is a fleet and stocky 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior, is rated the No. 24 player overall and top dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports composite. He’s thrown for 6,543 prep career yards, rushed for 1,916 more and accounted for 117 touchdowns while leading the Wildcats to a 24-3 record since 2018.

Vandagriff, a more angular 6-3, 205-pound senior, is rated the No. 13 player overall and No. 2 dual-threat QB in the Class of 2021. He’s thrown for 6,174 yards and 65 touchdowns in his prep career, rushed for 1,486 more yards and 34 scores, and led the Wolverines to a 42-7 record since 2017.

This may be the first of many meetings between the two QBs, at least if they stick with their respective college choices.
