You can’t make this stuff up.
On Wednesday, the First Responders Bowl was cancelled due to inclement weather in Dallas, Texas. It’s the first real-known FBS bowl game to be cancelled for any reason. The game was cancelled after nine minutes and 52 seconds. At that point, Boston College led 7-0 over Boise State.
The game’s Twitter account announced the news:
The game has officially been ruled a no contest.

ESPN then released a statement about the cancellation explaining the decision:
“After more than an hour since stoppage of play, and with review of the active lightning and thunderstorm cells still in the area of the Cotton Bowl, it was determined that the game should be called,” said Pete Derzis, ESPN senior vice president of ESPN Events and programming. “All parties were concerned about player safety first and foremost, and with that being the primary concern, as well as the fans in attendance, it was a unanimous decision to cancel the game.”
Interestingly, SERVPRO, the game’s title sponsor, paid loads of money to be the title sponsor, and we’re not exactly sure if they get paid back or not. Hilariously, the company’s slogan is: “Like it never even happened.”
We would argue that following the cancellation, SERVPRO has received more publicity than if the game was actually played.
