There is a path to an upset for Auburn this week in the Iron Bowl, but it comes down to, in part, play calling for the Tigers.

CBS analyst Gary Danielson outlined what coach Gus Malzahn and the Tigers need to do in order to keep Alabama in check. He shared those thoughts during a recent segment on WJOX in Birmingham.

“I don’t personally think that Auburn can handle this Alabama offense the way they need to,” Danielson said. “I mean, I don’t think they think coming into this game think they can win 17-10. I just don’t believe that. I feel they think they need to get to 28, 31 points. I don’t think this Auburn team, the way it’s built, they don’t have a dominating running back, they’re good SEC running backs, but they don’t have a Kerryon Johnson back there.”

For what it’s worth, the Vegas over-under is about 50 points, with Alabama being a 3.5-point favorite.

So what’s the best strategy?

“For them to move the ball against Alabama, I think they have to use (QB) Bo Nix in the running game,” Danielson said. “That’s when Gus is best at calling plays. He’s most comfortable that way. And I think that’s your best chance at keeping this Alabama defense off balance.”
