CBS Sports updates SEC bowl projections heading into Championship Weekend
The regular season is over, and with the newest College Football Playoff rankings out as of Tuesday night, bowl projections are being updated.
CBS Sports expert Jerry Palm updated his projections on Tuesday, and there are some interesting matchups for the 11 bowl-eligible SEC squads.
As you can see below, Palm has Alabama projected to go to the College Football Playoff and three other teams going to New Year’s Six bowl games.
Here’s where the other squads are projected to play this postseason:
Alabama
- Cotton Bowl (CFP) vs. Oklahoma
Auburn
- Texas Bowl vs. TCU
Florida
- Peach Bowl vs. Michigan
Georgia
- Sugar Bowl vs. Texas
Kentucky
- Citrus Bowl vs. Penn State
LSU
- Fiesta Bowl vs. UCF
Mississippi State
- Music City Bowl vs. NC State
Missouri
- TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Wisconsin
South Carolina
- Liberty Bowl vs. Baylor
Texas A&M
- Outback Bowl vs. Michigan State
Vanderbilt
- Belk Bowl vs. Pitt
What is with all these prognosticators fascination with Michigan and UF?
It’s just CBS I think.
This site also has an article about some dude named Bryan Fischer who also has Michigan UF. I don’t even know who he is.
I’m hoping for the Music City bowl. It’s 4 hours away and I love Nashville. I won’t go to the Taxslayer bowl.
No one cares lmao
The outback bowl and gator bowl (taxslayer) are better bowls and create more interesting matchups. I would only want music city if it saves us from playing the boring big12 in the Texas bowl and liberty bowl.
Good thing teams don’t go to inferior bowls just to make one fan happy.
Please let a SEC team play UCF so they can STFU……… If this holds true I’m with LSU!!!!!!!
UCF beat an SEC team last year and would throttle Missouri…Let the big dogs take care of them, kid.
Most teams would throttle Mizzou and have.l already. UCF deserves Florida.
6-5, barely bowl eligible and salty. Why the hate?
This weekend we will have our seventh win. Are you salty from your loss to us this year? Or, are you just salty that you went to Mizzou for an “education”?
If Auburn isn’t a big dog, how come UGA got throttled by them?
You “throttled” them in Athens? Must’ve turned it off before that happened…
Someone must have skipped reading comprehension class this morning..
DD2 said UCF beat an SEC team last year (Auburn) and then proceeded to say “Let the big dogs take care of them” meaning Auburn isn’t a big dog because they didn’t beat them. Well if Auburn isn’t a big dog, what does that make UGA who got throttled last year by Auburn?
Auburn ‘throttled’ UGA??
The same year UCF beat Auburn, yes. Auburn beat the dog crap out of UGA.
You beat us in your house in a game that didn’t matter. We beat you by 3 touchdowns in the one that did. If you could have just beat a less talented group of 5 team than we wouldn’t have to hear about all of this UCF nonsense..
Oh it mattered. You keep telling yourself that. Congrats you beat our team when the best offensive player in the conference was hurt..
Remember DD2.. you said we aren’t big dogs so why would you expect us to beat a G5 team?
Also why does that say about bama since, you know, they couldn’t beat us?
Wde0012… DD2 has been crying since January..
WDE, I am talking about this year. Obviously Auburn was a big dog (as you humiliated BamaTime’s tide in the Iron Bowl) last year, but for some reason it seems Gus can’t get his teams motivated for bowl games.
BamaTime, quit stalking me please…It is getting creepy at this point.
Would you be motivated to play a P5 team after being 1 quarter away from going to the playoff? No.
Same reason bama lost to Utah in 09. It happens.
As far as bowl games.. they’re motivated usually. NC game lost in last seconds, sugar bowl vs Oklahoma Sean white goes down first drive. Stuff happens..
The Peach bowl was a month after the SECCG. That is plenty of time to get over the loss and prove that you are still an elite team.
So let me get this straight..
If Auburn would have beaten UCF that would have proven that they are an elite team?
Well, it would have made them a lot less like a typical 4 loss Auburn team…
You’re all over the place.. lol.
Wde0012… You’re wasting your time. His whole purpose in posting is to troll and he will continue to post random $hit trying to get his weak a$$ trolling to stick.
BamaTime, you follow me around wherever I go…You are the troll.
Wde0012, good luck in the Birmingham bowl. Probably a 30 minute drive from your trailer.
Thanks.. Make sure you’re prepared for the second half Saturday. No excuses this time.. Tua will play. 1980 is a long time ago
DD2 all I have to do is go to a article about Bama to find you…. My reply was to WDE…
WDE your program has been irrelevant since Scam Newton left almost a decade ago…You are nothing more than a perennial 4 loss football team located in the middle of nowhere at cow college! I guess you are also UGA’s son as we give you all of our team’s outcasts and have beat you 13/16 meetings.
I sure am owning you tonight. Keep Gus!
Thanks for finally catching up in the series..
Were you even alive the last time UGA won something relevant?
Yes, I was alive when we drubbed the cow college less than a year ago and won the conference.
Maybe one day you will catch UGA in conference championships, all-time record, wins, bowl games, bowl record (LOL nope), NFL draft picks, etc. Man, we really are your daddy as we have beat your mediocre program 13-16 years.
Keep Gus!
Oh so CCG’s make you relevant now? I could’ve sworn that game didn’t matter because in the end.. you lost and choked.
Look bud, I would be mad too if my team got destroyed by its two biggest rivals basically every year and if they were a perennial 4 loss team. And at the same time my university was located on a barn.
Maybe in 6 years when you get a competent you can catch UGA in conference championships (28-7), all-time record, wins, etc. But, probably not!
Keep Gus! Loser.
Not mad at all.. it’s the internet man.
For being such a terrible program lately in the last decade we have twice as many national championship appearances and the same number of SECCG appearances as UGA
LMAO, you really used twice to make it sound better. Pathetic.
13/16…Keep Gus!
I used twice because it is the truth..
1980
UGA and Auburn have 2 championships (UGA didn’t cheat to get theirs..)
UGA has more SEC championships, wins all time, bowl wins, players drafted…Need I say more? LMAO.
Trolling again.. auburn didn’t cheat either lol
It is impressive that a team of proven convicts can win 8 games in the SEC. I’ll give you guys that.
Name 3 convicts on Auburn.. I’ll wait
Any middle of the road or higher SEC team would think UCF. Even if they had Milton that’s not the same team they had last year. And that SEC team they played last year was not at all interested in playing that game.
Thump*
Wde0012 SEC champs?
Alabama will not play OU in the Cotton Bowl. If they’re the #1 seed and OU is the opponent, they’ll play in the Orange Bowl. It’s not that complicated to figure out.
Unless the rules have changed when I wasn’t looking, the #1 seed gets to play in the playoff game closest to their campus. The Cotton Bowl is closer to Tuscaloosa than the Orange Bowl, therefore if Alabama is #1 when bowls are set, it would be the Cotton for them.
I don’t think it’s the location that is the closest, but the location that gives them a geographical advantage. They’re not going to make the #1 seed play in the back yard of their opponent. That wouldn’t make any sense.
Very little about the college football playoffs, or the NCAA for that matter, makes much sense. However, from the NCAA website: “the No. 1 seed is assigned to the site closest to its campus”. As the rules currently stand, if Alabama is number 1, they will play in the Cotton Bowl. It is possible that the NCAA waives their rule in that situation, but at this point you cannot assume that. The NCAA is famous for strictly enforcing rules one day and shamelessly ignoring their own rules the next day. Since the purpose of the rule is to keep from giving a home field feel to the lower ranked team, it is quite possible that will be sufficient cause to waive the rule and put Alabama in the Orange. I do not feel that the Alabama contingency will be any smaller in one than the other and will be at least half of the crowd whether in Arlington or Miami.
The rule is the No. 1 seed is assigned to the site closest to its campus to prevent it from playing in a “road” environment. If Oklahoma is the matchup, the Cotton Bowl would be like a “road” environment for Bama with Texas on in OU’s backyard.
It CBS assuming UCF without their starting QB, beats Memphis ??
Please tell me this projection ends up true. While I know it will be forever marred by the fact Milton will not be playing, maybe some of the yelling will die down when LSU rolls over UCF.
Interesting take on the Sugar: Both Texas and Georgia are going to be coming off big loses only to meet in the top bowl after the playoff bowls? Georgia maybe by contract but not Texas if OU blows them out.
*Coming off big losses according to the self described experts.
