If and when the 2020 football season takes place, there’s a chance it could be a shortened year. It’s still too early to make any definitive statements about what will take place with college football, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation.

One potential plan that has been making rounds involves shortening the season, but then expanding the College Football Playoff to make up for lost revenue.

But, on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Tuesday, CFP executive director Bill Hancock said there haven’t been any discussions about expanding the Playoff:

“Expansion of the [College Football] Playoff this year is not being considered,” Hancock said. “There has not been any talk about it at all.”

When Finebaum said he was surprised that the Playoff committee wasn’t at least considering it, Hancock said it is simply too early in the process to do so:

“It’s April, and we just don’t know,” he said. “As soon as we do know, believe me, we’ll set up in our office and get working on it. But the speculation has created so many possibilities that it wouldn’t even be possible to respond to all of them or consider all of them even if anybody wanted to. Believe me, when the time comes, we’ll be all over this.”

This is certainly a situation that bears monitoring over the next few weeks.
