CFP director Bill Hancock weighs in on talk of expanding to an 8-team Playoff
Now that we have two SEC teams in the National Championship Game, there is growing momentum for the College Football Playoff to expand to eight teams.
That way, all five Power 5 champions could get in, along with three wildcards. However, those hoping for a quick change shouldn’t hold their breath.
According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, those in charge of the event are happy with four teams and there has been no talk of expansion:

“There’s no talk about expansion,” CFP executive director Bill Hancock said on Tuesday. “The commissioners and the presidents are very happy with the four-team playoff.”
The Playoff is only in its fourth year of existence, so it doesn’t seem like change is coming anytime soon.
Could it expand in the future? Absolutely, but for now, everyone who has a say in the matter is happy with four teams battling it out for the title on a yearly basis.
