South Florida has fired Charlie Strong, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken.

Wolken reports that staff members are being told that Strong won’t return to the Bulls.

Black Sunday is always a terrible day for coaches, because many lose jobs and families suffer. However, with so much revenue tied to the football program, teams simply cannot afford to keep some coaches.

Strong’s Bulls finished 4-8 on the season with a blowout loss to rival UCF. USF lost its last four games of the season to Temple, Cincinnati, Memphis and UCF. Strong went an impressive 15-2 vs. FBS opponents during the first 1.5 seasons; however, things spiraled out of control after that. He finished just 3-14 after that time, and Strong finished at South Florida with a 21-16 record.

Strong was previously fired at Texas where he compiled a 15-21 record. His tenure at Louisville ended much better, as he finished 37-15 overall from 2010-13.

Strong is a great defensive coordinator and great recruiter, and he won’t have to wait long for a staff position if he wants one.
