Former Florida receiver Chris Doering said Sunday he agrees that Clemson deserves to be ranked No. 1 because the Tigers are unbeaten.
But the SEC Network analyst doesn’t believe Clemson could beat Alabama.

The statement ignited a firestorm among Clemson supporters and fans from outside SEC territory, leading Doering to defend his comments. Doering spent much of Sunday going back and forth with critics.
