Week 3 Coaches Poll released
The first updated Coaches Poll of the 2020 college football season has been posted following Saturday’s games.
We have quite a bit of shakeup in the poll as this is the first Coaches Poll to be released following the start of the season and decision from the Big Ten and Pac-12 to postpone their seasons.
Now that it appears the Big Ten may be returning to action before long, this poll may look drastically different in another week or two.
Here is the latest top 25 from the updated Coaches Poll:
#1 Clemson
#2 Alabama
#3 Oklahoma
#4 Georgia
#5 LSU
#6 Florida
#7 Notre Dame
#8 Texas
#9 Auburn
#10 Texas A&M
#11 North Carolina
#12 Oklahoma State
#13 UCF
#14 Cincinnati
#15 Memphis
#16 Louisville
#17 Tennessee
#18 Miami
#19 Virginia Tech
#20 Kentucky
#21 Louisiana
#22 BYU
#23 Appalachian State
#24 Baylor
#25 Army
Others Receiving Votes:
Georgia Tech 96; Pittsburgh 81; West Virginia 59; Virginia 56; Texas Christian 56; Southern Methodist 25; Tulane 20; South Carolina 18; Boise State 15; Marshall 14; Arkansas St. 13; Mississippi State 12; Duke 12; Texas Tech 11; Mississippi 8; Coastal Carolina 8; Iowa State 6; North Texas 5; South Florida 3.
Why did Boise St. receive votes? They aren’t playing this Fall.
Good question. The AP did it too, and also allowed Air Force to be polled.
Interesting to see Auburn at #9. They definitely have the talent to be there. I think Miami, Kentucky and Tennessee will all start rising once we get farther along.
Miami is a much better team with D’Eriq King.
One player, even a good QB, ain’t fixing that UM train wreck. They’re years away.
I was hoping that GaTech would break into the top 25. So close.
You will have to settle for Army bumping them out. GO ARMY!!!
How many years since we have seen an Army team ranked? Way to go Black Knights!!!
One ESPN personality has Army as the Cinderella team in the playoffs. Jeff Monken has made a huge difference. I hated to see him leave Ga. Southern, but he’s making things happen at West Point.
I have yet to accept the logic that ranks Louisville ahead of Kentucky. Kentucky brings back almost their entire starting lineups on both sides of the ball. Also, last year Kentucky steamrolled Louisville by 32 points. Am I the only one perplexed by this one?
Been saying it for weeks now. They can’t get enough of Satterfield. Their defense is terrible. They’re not good in the trenches. We bullied them last year. They’ve scored a combined 23 points against us the last 2 games…
This year must be better team for Louisville? Let see what the final record will be for both teams at the end of the year.
Kentucky brought back a lot more starters and recruited better.
Maybe because they play in ACC they feel that Lville will win more games than Kentucky will in the SEC with a much tougher schedule.
The Louisvillians never saw a poll voter the didn’t want to pay for. Completely laughable that anyone would publish these stupid paid cheering sections
I agree, it’s likely more about Satterfield than anything else.
Early season poll. As useful as a preseason poll is especially when half of the teams in the poll haven’t even played yet. Kentucky has the season to sort this out, sadly it doesn’t have the head to head matchup thanks to the SEC’s bungling.
What i want to know is why is Tennessee ranked? They are marching into year 3 STILL without a head football coach and the only 2 reasons they won a single football game are now departed and in the NFL, or trying to be in the NFL. Seriously they will be lucky to win a single game this year if that, and they are ranked. WTF.
Agree…. preseason polls are about almost as useless as your opinion.
Tell us more. What will your team do this year?
Kentucky has the season to sort it out……..Hilarious. They’ve had ample time to sort it out. I’m thinking 75+ years
It’s all about perception nationally. Louisville has been overall a good program over the last 20 years, while UK has been overall mediocre (And much worse than that at times), so random people who don’t know anything about it assume it’s more likely that Louisville is a better team.
And then you get the typical single layer of examination – UK lost Lynn Bowden and he did everything for them! But UL has the exciting WR and QB back! Obviously Louisville is trending up while UK is nothing but a question mark.
And that’s how it goes. Honestly surprised we were receiving votes in the preseason polls at all
I just think it is the schedule for Louisville that gets them rated higher. It’s way easier than Kentucky’s and they don’t have to play Kentucky this year in the Governor’s Cup!
Iowa St got 6 votes…lmao. No top 25 team should be ranked when they can’t even beat a group of 5 team.
I watched part of that game and Louisiana just seemed to have better athletes out there.
Either Louisiana is a sleeper team or Iowa State is headed for a long season and might even lose to Kansas they way they played Saturday.
Not sure if Louisiana is a sleeper this year or not, but they went 11-3 last year, losing to Mississippi St in their opener and then to App St twice, and won their bowl game against Miami-Ohio. Not a bad team that is building a tradition.
A lot of these ballots are filled out by sports information directors.
Oh sure, army, louisville, BYU, louisiana, miami, memphis, cincinnati, could have a winning season in the SEC, or the Big 12.
The SEC would have taken both of Louisville and Miami before Mizzou. Both are historically greater than Missouri.
The vols are in for a rude awakening
