Cole Cubelic is back with his weekly SEC takeaways following a revealing week in the conference.
We say revealing mostly because of Texas A&M’s win over LSU, which crows the Aggies as the No. 1 team in conference standings heading into the month of November. Mike Elko’s Aggies are the only undefeated team remaining in conference play, their sole loss having come to Notre Dame at the start of the season.
Elsewhere, there’s plenty to talk about. Vanderbilt held their own against Texas, Alabama completely dominated Mizzou and Ole Miss took care of business against Oklahoma.
Of all performances this past weekend, Cubelic seemed to be most impressed with the Aggies – and it’s hard not to agree. Elko completely flipped the script when Marcel Reed entered the game and – as pointed out by Cubelic – the defense was flying all over the field, especially dominant at the line of scrimmage.
Here’s a full look at Cubelic’s takeaways for the weekend:
ARKANSAS: Nice road win in league play. Great plan on off. Use TEs to widen surface, hide them & find throws to them after downhill runs. Then move them as lead blockers or to get out on routes. 9 was great blocking & catching. QB exceptional. Legs dynamic. Couple ankles left on…

KENTUCKY: 9 was solid inside. Missed tackles on perimeter. Formations has def confused at times. Edge defenders confused on some reads. Mesh reads were off for def. 0 got back there a few times. 9 played hard. 90 had some good reps. They just visually took themselves out of some…

MISSISSIPPI STATE: The short yardage losses were gut wrenching. 4 attacked the ball well. 7 was on the spot. Played well. 44 did some good things. 91 had some pass rush wins. Misdirection got them off their spots. Over perused. Just have some guys physically playing out of…

OKLAHOMA: Played hard. Tackled well. Defense super aggressive. Limited yards after catch. The front was active & disruptive. 28 all over, had a 3 man game with him back inside vs slide that was cooking. 40 great off edge. 65 & 95 solid inside. Run twists gave them some…

TEXAS: Solid road conference win. QB caught fire after tipped pick to start. 17 straight completions is absurd. Quick game deadly. Took a little while to get run going. Balanced it out late. Looked like they were going to lean on them late. Flags an untimely killer. Big game for…

VANDERBILT: Started out the way they had to. Then couldn’t get stops. Quick game hurt them. Missed some tackles on perimeter. 2 active on defense. 29 & 96 good off edge. 3rd down runs gashed them late. Re answered the call. QB found a few plays. Needed to get run going downhill…
