Cole Cubelic’s takeaways are a Sunday staple on SEC Twitter.
The day after chowing down on South Carolina State Fair grub and covering the Gamecocks’ win over Texas A&M, Cubelic took to Twitter to share his takeaways on the 9 SEC teams that were in action on Saturday. Tennessee took a break from conference play with an FCS game, while there were 4 SEC clashes.
Here’s what Cubelic had to say after watching each team’s performance:
LSU: OL brought the fight. 75 playing bully ball. 86 & 10 solid. Love how they are marrying up QB runs & quick game. Making 5 comfy/confident. Multiple WR sets opening up the run. 92 & 99 making things tough inside on D. 40 & 30 super active. Defensive speed was on full display.

MISSOURI: SEC win! Great day of team D. Allowed 3 explosives, 1 scramble drill, 1 catch & run. Pass rush there, pressures affected pocket. Got off blocks. Solid day. 6 was strong! Liked getting 3 & going early. 12 inconsistent, makes great throws down field then ugly pick.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Beamer ball. Great start. Ride the emotion. Had to battle late but got a massive win! Environment was off the charts. 1 is a violent runner. 44 & 18 big in making that off go. Couple key drops. DL stepped up again. Last drive on off massive, OL/TE/RB got it done!!

TEXAS A&M: To survive that storm early & still crawl back into that game showed me something. Team is beat up & you can tell. OL has to find a way to allow the QB to operate. Have enough skill. Penalties were killer. Needed to find a simple plan with cadence/snap & roll w/it.

VANDERBILT: Couldn’t get run going. Missed a few throws down the field. Needed better protection. 5 showed positives in pass game. Set edges well vs stretch. 96 does a lot of dirty work. 13 was big time. 0 active. Too much space allowed in coverage. There is no drop in the fight.

Fans who don’t agree with Cubelic’s Week 8 takeaways can blame the donut burger. We’ll see what Cubelic has to say after Week 9’s games next Sunday.
