The SEC sent 2 quarterbacks to the NFL as first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft — LSU’s Joe Burrow (No. 1 overall) and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (No. 5 overall).

Both are likely to play as rookies this fall, with Burrow looking like the Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 1 starter. Tua might not start right away, but he should play in 2020 for the Miami Dolphins.

On Wednesday, FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd predicted when both SEC rookie QBs would pick up their first pro victories. He started with Burrow:

“This is the easy one,” Cowherd said. “I think he’s a good prospect entering a brutal division. I think he’s going to lose to the Chargers, Cleveland and Philadelphia to open. These are elite defensive fronts. But, I do believe at home, against a Jacksonville team that is rebooting … it’ll be one of only 4 or 5 wins. I think that’s an easy one. I think Joe Burrow’s first win is against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4 of the NFL.”

Then, he predicted when Tagovailoa would take over as the starter and when he’d win for the first time:

“Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to Mike Garafolo, Fitzpatrick’s the starter,” Cowherd said. “So, Fitzpatrick has a history of playing very well early. He’ll beat New England at New England. Bill Belichick’s worst month is September. Fitzpatrick’s best month is September. He also is a veteran quarterback who has faced Belichick many times. …

“The coaching staff will strongly consider starting Tua at Denver (in Week 6). … The coaching staff, knowing Denver and that altitude and Vic Fangio, is not an ideal start. They’ll start him that following week at home against the Chargers. They will not win that game. … Tua’s first win will be Week 8 against the Rams at home. Remember, the previous week, the Rams play Monday Night Football — short week. The week after that game, the Rams have it off. Are they overlooking Miami with a losing record?”

Will Cowherd be proven right? We’ll find out when the NFL season starts this fall.
