A bizarre situation unfolded at FCS program Illinois State over the weekend, as offensive coordinator Kurt Beathard has abruptly resigned.

According to The Pantagraph, Beathard resigned on Wednesday, which he confirmed on Thursday.

His abrupt resignation was complete with him leaving a sign on his office door that read “All Lives Matter to Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.”

Per the report, a “Black Lives Matter” poster was removed from the Illinois State locker room. However, Beathard said he had nothing to do with that:

“That locker room crap is wrong. I took the sign down somebody put on my door. That’s it,” Beathard said. “I didn’t take anything off that wasn’t put on my door. I wrote the message.”

Beathard served as Illinois State’s offensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015, and again from 2018 to now.

Beathard’s nephew, CJ, is a former Iowa quarterback and current member of the San Francisco 49ers.
