It’s not often we get to praise the NCAA for making a good decision so we thought we would recognize the news that the organization has made a decision that actually makes sense.

While legalized betting is still something most SEC states don’t allow, you can now walk into Mississippi casinos and find sportsbooks that are completely legal. Tennessee recently decided to join the list of states that will have legalized betting, however, the Volunteer State is only permitting online bets, not betting at physical brick and mortar stores. That also means that anyone that lives in a border state of Tennessee or visits the state will soon be able to wager online legally once they cross state lines.

If you were unaware, the NCAA has long had a rule against allowing states with legalized gambling from holding championship events. Without stating as much, the rule clearly targeted Las Vegas but now that several states have adopted legalized gambling, the NCAA has changed course and will now allow states that have legalized betting to host championship events.

This could be good news for Las Vegas, as the Raiders are still scheduled to move into a new football stadium in the city. If the building is up to the standard of the NCAA, it’s easy to imagine the College Football Playoff or Final Four making the trip to the desert to hold those events. This is also good news for Mississippi and Tennessee, as those states don’t have to worry about the NCAA providing a roadblock for potential championship bids in the future.
