The college football playoff selection committee has now lost its third member in as many years, as it was announced Friday that former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr has stepped down from his role. The 2016 season would have been Carr’s first year on the committee.

In an official press release, Carr explained his decision to walk away from the committee, citing health issues:

“This is a difficult decision because I have enjoyed my preparations and I have the greatest respect for the other committee members and the playoff itself,” said Carr. “I regret that health issues will prevent me from executing the responsibilities expected of a committee member.”

The Executive Director of the committee, Bill Hancock, had this to say:

“Lloyd will be missed,” Hancock said. “He knows and loves college football, but we all understand.”

Following Carr’s decision, there will be only 12 members on the playoff selection committee this season.

Archie Manning (in 2014) and Pat Haden (in 2015) are the other two members that have stepped down from the committee in previous seasons.
