College Football Playoff top 25: Fans weigh in where teams should be ranked
By Andrew Olson
Published:
In the most anticipated results of Tuesday, the first College Football Playoff selection committee top 25 was revealed.
In the new 12-team format, there are more audiences engaged than ever. Teams that were once out of consideration with 2 losses in November during the 4-team format are still alive in the 12-team era.
There was no real surprises that the top 5 teams are the same as the AP Top 25: Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Miami and Texas. One quirk is that the top-4 seeds in the Playoff will be conference champions. With Oregon leading the Big Ten, Ohio State is ranked No. 2 but projects to be the 5-seed if it does not win the B1G title.
As one might expect, fan reaction focused on rankings. The committee cannot please everybody. Fans identified the teams that they feel are ranked a big too high or too low.
Here’s a sample of what was said on social media:

Also, Penn State is ranked WAY TOO HIGH. They have ZERO wins over a team currently ranked. It’s ridiculous.

BYU is undefeated with wins at No. 13 SMU and vs. No. 19 K-State.
Being ranked down at No. 9 feels way too low.

Tennessee and Bama too high.
Committee keeps Mizzou in for the sole purpose of giving the Tide another ranked win.
