South Dakota pulled off an improbable victory on Saturday over South Dakota State as time expired when QB Carson Camp found Jeremiah Webb for a game-winning 57-yard touchdown pass that was deflected en route.
The Coyotes won 23-20 thanks to winning the second half, 16-10, as they improved to 7-3 on the season. The Jackrabbits fell to 7-3.
These teams are used to tight finishes.
It was the second time they met as FCS top-25 foes as the rankings came in No. 17 for the Coyotes and No. 7 for the Jackrabbits. The last intrastate meeting of top-25 teams came in 2017 when the Jacks eked out a 31-28 win on the final week of the regular season. That result gave SDSU a first-round bye in the playoffs while South Dakota ultimately qualified for its first FCS playoffs and scored a first-round win at Nicholls.
