College GameDay analysts weigh in on Florida-LSU cancellation
On ESPN’s College GameDay, analysts weighed in on the cancellation of the LSU-Florida game.
No makeup date has been scheduled yet, which drew the ire of everyone on the set.
“The idea that you won’t play it is preposterous,” Rece Davis said. “SEC, get this done!”
“The SEC’s national reputation is at stake,” Lee Corso added. “There’s no excuse for not playing this game sometime.”
Paul Finebaum highlighted a date that could work for a rescheduled game between the two schools.
“Sadly, not much has happened,” Finebaum said. “I think what has to happen is the conference has to get together and say the only option is Nov. 19.”
Florida plays Presbyterian on Nov. 19 and LSU has a game scheduled against South Alabama. Both of those tuneup games could be cancelled to allow LSU and Florida to play an important conference game.
Overall, analyst Desmond Howard said he believes the game will get played at some point this year.
“When things calm down, they’ll figure it out,” he said.
Florida is scared.
Florida stacks courts with their judges.
Disqualify Florida from the SECG and watch how fast they move to get this game done.
If the LSU AD’s reported offers are true (we’ll play on Sunday or Monday; we’ll use Death Valley if you want to; we’ll play November 19, etc.), and Foley turned them all down, then you are 100% right. It seems that Foley is looking for any excuse NOT to play.
Maybe (like I said, MAYBE), we’ll not crap the bed and beat them this year, and that backing-in scenario won’t come to pass.
LSU ad won’t play on the 19th that’s the issue UF has offered… we won’t play a home game on the road this game was are biggest recruiting visit not to mention were in contention for the division we won’t play our toughest game on the road when it was a scheduled home game.
How does it look to recruits when you refuse to meet an opponent equally matched to your team? Not good.
you continue to say Florida has offered the 19th, but Alleva publicly said reports that Foley offered that to LSU was an outright lie. Yeah, Foley threw that lie among others out at his press conference. That presser was Aleeva’s first hearing it mentioned.
The fact still remains, Foley knew all week and even at the time he pushed Sankey into cancelling, that the forecast in and around Gainesville was nothing near hurricane like. The decision to reschedule the game for Sunday or Monday in Gainesville contingent on whether any storm damage was encounterd or not, could have and should have been made… It was offered.
Tennessee fans are mad at the possibility of UF and LSU not playing and it will affect the east race. Tennessee will be out of the race because they will lose to TAM and AL.
Also UF offered to play on the 19th of Nov and LSU said no because they did not want to play road games against Arkansas, UF, and TAM. Now who’s scared?
They said no because they would have to pay $1.5M to buyout their game vs. South Alabama. Florida’s buyout is only $500k. Florida turned down every viable option and are trying to make LSU look like the bad guys now because they don’t want to pay $1.5M to play a game they could have played at no extra cost if Florida wasn’t too scared to play. I don’t like either team but it is clear to everyone but Florida fans that this whole debacle falls on the shoulders of Florida.
WarEagle, it must only be clear to ignorant fans around the SEC then. Because the SEC has insurance $ set aside to pay off the buyout for games like this every year for these type situations. 1.5 mil is nothing to LSU. If they sell 20k tickets at an average of $75 at any home game, they’ve got that covered. Money isn’t the issue. And THAT is clear to everyone in the SEC that has their brain on.
Your logic makes zero sense. They were already playing road games against these teams. Lsu didnt want to give up a home game on the 19 because they would lose 1.9 million dollars in revenue.
“Tennessee will be out of the race because they will lose to TAM and AL.”
Exactly why Florida didn’t want to play LSU. Cheap way of trying to back into the SEC championship game!
Bobmarleysmk…. they weren’t scheduled to play the three toad games in succession over 12 days. But we’ll probably end up doing it anyway. I’m curious how Foley is planning on getting out of the 19th plan… I bet he’s already hoping for something to save y’all from Missouri next week,
So many Vols weighing in on this.
Sounds like YOU’RE the ones who are scared.
Just win and your in stop being a crybaby.
Just win? That’s rich coming from a fan of a team that won’t even play a game they’re supposed to.
From Aaron Hernandez to Huntley Johnson to Jeremy Foley, Florida is over-the-top corrupt.
The SEC cannot allow Florida’s reputation to become theirs.
How is Foley corrupt? Explain this to us, oh omniscient one. Aaron Hernandez didn’t do his crime until he was two years removed from UF up in Boston. And Johnson doesn’t work for UF, he’s an independent lawyer whose practice is in Gainesville, who many people use. Strike three. You’re out.
Georgia and SC have found a way to play. And likely nothing is on the line for our game. Florida could find a way to play if they really wanted to.
Even better, Miami is finding a way to play their game!
No actually they made the offer that everyone outside of LSU has made. Play the game on November 19th and UF will pay off Presbyterian and help LSU pay off South Bama so they can play the game. Unfortunately, my friend, it is Joe Alleva who is the only one saying no to the most reasonable, safe, conclusion that gives everyone time to replan for the logistics of it all. I bet you money the game will be played Novemeber 19th. Oh, by the way, threaten to disqualify LSU from the SEC Championship game and watch how quick “They” get it done.
You are Full of $hit!. Game could have been play Sunday or Monday. I hear it is SUNNY, CLEAR AND 82 degrees in Gainville today. It the Sec office that they let Florida play them like a drum. Florida wanted the time off to heal.
So do to hell PUSSYGATORS.
You realize that much of gator country has standing water in their homes and trees through their roofs today. But hey, it’s all about “current” weather conditions. Idiot.
the only bit of truth you’ve spoken in your bloviating is, they will probably play on the 19th. You have no idea what was actually offered and what wasn’t nor do I. You are just repeating schidt you’ve read probably on facebook.
Sankey was interviewed a couple of times Saturday and there was no mention of ANY offers of any dates made or any buyouts. When asked if any thoughts were discussed, he simply said, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday their discussions were solely about safety first. And Friday they were focused on SC…
Is this Vol Train Conductor guy retarded? I need a serious answer because otherwise I’m going to put him on blast.
Yes, he is.

Corso hit the nail on the head. If you don’t play this game, especially with spots in the SECCG on the line, then the SEC as a conference should be embarrassed. To allow teams from the East or West to saunter into the title game after losing a head-to-head but winning on a technicality, it would make the SEC a national embarrassment in the CFB world. I don’t know if all that happens, but right now there’s plenty on the line. This game MUST get played. And it needs to be played at a point in the season when it’s fair to both LSU and Florida (i.e., not making LSU play three conference road games in 12 days…)
I agree, game should be played LSU offer numerous options to the pussygators.
Florida played the Sec commissioner like a drum. Sec comish should had made the team play on Sunday or Monday like they did to LSU after Katrina when we had to play on Monday nite against Tennessee. Why should LSU have to give up a home game on November 19 and have to buyout So. Alabama at 1.5 million and lose the game revenue.
Sec need to but a contingency plan at the end of the season that if this game is of any importance that the Sec championship game will be push back one week and Lsu/Fla game will be played on December 3nd like they did in after 911 cancelled games in 2001.
LSU wants this game to be played only on THEIR terms. Sorry, the home team gets to dictate the terms.
That being said, there’s no reason they couldn’t have played tomorrow or even tonight. The weather is pretty nice in Gainesville right now.
Yeah, LSU’s terms were
Play in Death Valley
Play Sunday or Monday and LSU will fly in that morning and fly out that night, in order to not take hotel rooms from evacuees
Or play at a neutral site
Florida declined all options and never offered up any “Terms”

Hey GATORDONTPLAY2ndHALF…….. Please just shut up…you are embarrassing your fan base….and who besides you really believes fl is in “contention” to win the division? Pipe dream at best!🍊
Gators are not only an embarrassment to their fan base, but the entire SEC….
You an ass! LSU offer numerous options to the PUSSYGATORS to play that game at Fla,
LSU or a neutral site. Who made the PUSSYGATORS King. LSU has been affect on numerous occasions by storms and where force to reschedule games. Let talk KATRINA, RITA, GUSTAV. LSU made concessions and move game days or times. So don’t put this app n LSU not wanting to cooperate. The solution is for the Sec to put in a conteinecy plan to play this game on Dec 3rd if it has any meaning to division championship. And move the Sec championship game December 10th. This was done in 2001 when game where cancelled due to 911.
You’re an idiot! LSU made every offer and concession to play this game, including playing it in Gainseville! Foley denied every request. After possibly the worst National disaster in this country, LSU traveled to Arizona to play a home game! With many of their players with family staying with them, family missing, and homes destroyed! Again, the SEC commish moved our game with Tenn to Monday night because of Hurricane Gustav! Plain and simple, FLA had no intention to Play this weekend!
If LSU had not offered all of these other options, I’d say we were just being stubborn but all of the news that Ive seen said we were more than willing to do so much more to prevent the 19 Nov game.
Florida is NOT giving LSU another home game. Too damn bad if you don’t like it. And don’t act like the lost revenue on Nov 19 is a huge deal. You’re paying Les Miles more than $5M to stay home and not coach your team. It’s obvious money isn’t an object.
Another home game was but 1 simple part of the offer… It was never a demand. Why do you people keep missing the part that LSU offered to play Sunday or Monday in GAINESVILLE? They never said BR or else…. Foley said Saturday noon or else…
Foley doesn’t want this game to be played… Insurance will kick in and pay Florida for the cancellation… The SEC event insurance only pays the home team for their loss of revenue. LSU did not travel therefore no loss was incurred. I’ve been trying to verify how the insurance works, I read it on some sports article, not twitter or facebook, where you guys are obviously getting most of your gossip….
and you don’t know schidt about what LSU is paying Miles either.
We offered that! UF declined!
LSU was willing to move heaven and earth to make this game work on the scheduled weekend. Florida, with the SEC’s blessing, put together a plan where cancellation was inevitable. If LSU cancels the South Alabama game, who will pay the lost revenue? About 1.5 million to pay off S Alabama and another 5-6 million or so to payback ticket holders, parking, lost concessions. That doesn’t include millions in lost revenue for local businesses. How much does insurance really cover? So LSU is now supposed to get a 3 road game gauntlet in 12 days and take a huge financial hit because Fla would not play ball……. SEC needs a new commissioner!
FSU is on the road, the GA Dome was available Sunday, the stadiums in Mobile and Tampa are available, many options. But the Gaytors are hiding in the swamp and clearly don’t ant to play this game. The SEC is looking very bad over this and needs to implement a rule that a school must play a full slate of conference games to be eligible for Atlanta.
Because you can reserve the Georgia dome, or any giant stadium within a few hundred miles, 2 days in advance. (Note the EXTREME sarcasm). I swear, some of you SEC fans really are stupid. Idk how but we’ve beaten UGA 2 years in a row in jax with treon. When I see comments like this, it makes me grin that we’ve done that for the past two years.
We had the Super Dome, and had hotel rooms blocked off for you, along with rooms in BR in 24 hours! Y’all keep shoveling this bs, it’s hilarious!
So Florida loses a home game for its fans (easily the biggest home game of the year, because the home schedule sucked this year), and Florida would have to play THREE straight years in Baton Rouge (2015, 2016, 2017). LSU wouldn’t have to play in the Swamp AT ALL from 2014 to 2018. That’s ridiculously stupid. The game will hopefully be played on November 19th. Stop claiming Florida is afraid. Football players aren’t afraid to play football. That’s the dumbest argument I see people making. (sidenote: UF didn’t make the call to postpone the game, that call is made by Sankey. So, again, stop claiming Florida is scared and postponed the game. It was Sankey’s call).
With all this trash talk, I’d love for UF to end up beating LSU this year. What goes around comes around, right? I hope we’ll see :P
JK, nobody that I’m aware of is saying the players are afraid to play. When we say Florida is afraid or Florida is scared, we mean the Foley specifically and McEllwain probably.
Me personally I’m retty sure the FL players are just as disappointed in Foley’s lack of courage as LSU players were.
* pretty… my “p” key sticks
no need to reserve any other facility… Sunday or Monday in Gainesville was always a possibility.
I hear its nice in gamemansshipville today no way this game could not go on monday night I bet those Tigers would be happy to come rolling in and kick some chicken tails
The SEC should count this as a forfeiture of the game by Florida which would make it another loss.
If they don’t like it, they can play LSU and earn their way in the honest way.
