College GameDay crew makes predictions for SEC, national champions
College GameDay was live in Ireland for Week 0 ACC action between Georgia Tech and Florida State. Since most of the teams don’t kick off until next week, Saturday’s show served as a sort of season preview.
That meant the crew of Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit (joined by celebrity guest picker Seamus), made their picks for the SEC and national championships.
The crew picked all of the major conference championships, but we’ll focus on the SEC and national championship picks in this piece.
Who will win the SEC title? Most analysts think either Georgia or Texas will get the job done. But there was no wavering from the ESPN panel, as everyone picked the Bulldogs to win in Atlanta on the first Saturday in December:
- Desmond Howard: Georgia
- Nick Saban: Georgia
- Pat McAfee: Georgia
- Sheamus: Georgia
- Kirk Herbstreit: Georgia
As for the national championship, there was more of a split. Saban and McAfee stuck with Georgia, while Howard and Herbstreit are picking the Oregon Ducks. Meanwhile, Sheamus, a legend in Ireland, is riding with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame:
- Desmond Howard: Oregon
- Nick Saban: Georgia
- Pat McAfee: Georgia
- Sheamus: Notre Dame
- Kirk Herbstreit: Oregon
Who will be proven right? The season is just getting started, so enjoy the ride, y’all!
Georgia. Start to finish. Yes, Texas beat Bama last year. But Georgia is Georgia THIS year.
Vols?
It’s really surprising that none of the pundits picked Ohio State for the national championship.
Who knows what happens with injuries, but analyzing the 247 Team Talent Composite for 2024, Texas and Georgia are roughly comparable in roster talent — with Georgia having a slight edge — but Texas pulls ahead when you adjust for experience (based on player class year). Georgia is on the young side this season.
Texass will have a tough time this year with SEC teams instead of little 12.Even with the tushy schedule and others gave them, week after week of SEC teams wil beat on them.It won’t be a two game to get ready for this season.
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. The SEC routinely has 8-9 teams ranked in the top 25. The Big 12 of the past was made up of Texas, Oklahoma and usually one other team that stepped up for the season.
How long will we have to put op with the McAfee clown ?
