There may not be a game all season that features two good teams more desperate for a victory.

Ole Miss  (7-3, 4-2 in the SEC) will host LSU (7-2, 4-2 in the SEC) in a battle of teams that have seen potential championship seasons digress quickly  thanks to some struggles in recent weeks.

There is no question that both Les Miles and Hugh Freeze could use a win this week, but only one can claim it.

So while we wait for Saturday’s highly anticipated game, let’s take a look at what each team will bring to the field with its coaching staffs, and what their line of thinking might be for this game:

HEAD COACHES

Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss: Now in his fourth season at Ole Miss, Freeze has established himself as one of the league’s elite coaches. Between his previously unreachable recruiting clout at Ole Miss and the way his team has been able to take down Alabama in big games during the past two seasons, the expectations are shifting towards SEC championships in the near future.

Les Miles, LSU: Even though he’s less than two weeks removed from being the No. 2 team in the country with a 7-0 record, there are rumors swirling around Baton Rogue that Miles may be coaching for his job during the final weeks of the regular season after losing two games in a row. Given that Miles has never won fewer than eight games at LSU, some might say the national championship-winning coach is a victim of his own success.

OFFENSIVE STAFFS

Ole Miss co-coordinators: Dan Werner (QB) and Matt Luke (OL)
Their staff: Derrick Nix (RB), Maurice Harris (TE), Grant Heard (WR)

When Ole Miss has the ball: The Rebels offense has been the league’s best in both points scored and yards gained, and it has been achieved through one of the nation’s top passing attacks. Chad Kelly has emerged as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks, and the game plan for beating the Tigers likely will revolve around putting the ball in his hands against a LSU defense that is typically pretty stout against the pass, but ranks eighth in the league this season.

LSU coordinator: Cam Cameron (QB)
His staff: Frank Wilson (RB), Jeff Grimes (OL), Tony Ball (WR), Steve Ensminger (TE)

When LSU has the ball: The Tigers lead the league in rushing yardage, mostly thanks to having Leonard Fournette in the backfield. LSU has typically carried a conservative run-first approach to things, so that probably won’t change just because the Tigers have lost a couple of games. But Ole Miss ranks 13th in the SEC against the pass, so firing up some downfield attempts to Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre should be in the plans as well.

DEFENSIVE STAFFS

Ole Miss co-coordinators: Dave Wommack (LB) and Jason Jones (CB)
Their staff: Chris Kiffin (DL), Corey Batoon (S/ST)

When LSU has the ball: Obviously, the primary concern is going to be finding a way to contain super stud RB Leonard Fournette. Arkansas and Alabama have put the blueprint out there during the past two games, with both holding Fournette under 100 yards rushing.

LSU coordinator: Kevin Steele
His staff: Ed Orgeron (DL), Bradley Dale Peveto (LB/ST), Corey Raymond (DB)

When Ole Miss has the ball: Kevin Steele is likely to try to force the Rebels to run the football. They have weapons for days at wide receiver, led by junior Laquon Treadwell, who has recorded at least 100 yards receiving and a touchdown in five consecutive games.
