As we’ve all sadly learned in recent weeks, no sporting event is safe from being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The latest event to feel the pain is the Olympics as USA Today is reporting that the 2020 Olympic games from Tokyo are set to be postponed due to the coronavirus.
The 2020 Olympics were set to begin on July 24, 2020, and run through August 9, 2020. Given we are 123 days away from that scheduled start date, that shows how serious the event is taking the coronavirus outbreak.
According to USA Today, the Tokyo Olympics are being pushed back a year to 2021.
“On the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided,” Veteran International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound said to USA Today. “The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”
The official announcement is expected to be made in the coming days.
