Why do so many fans care about recruiting?

It’s simple really, the team with the most talent wins significantly more often in college football. While coaching certainly can play a part in wins and losses on the field, landing talented players and having the ability to develop them is the key formula to winning big in the sport.

The modern history of the sport has proven that and we’ve seen the bigger programs recognize that fact as recruiting budgets have skyrocketed in recent seasons and recruiting departments have exploded all across college football.

Looking ahead to the 2020 SEC season, which teams have the most talent to work with?

Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports recently put together a nice chart outlining the last five recruiting classes list on 247Sports for every college football team and charted each in terms of overall talent.

It must be noted that these figures do not account for attrition but still should be quite accurate given the fact that all teams suffer losses on an annual basis. So taking that into consideration, here’s how the SEC stacks up in terms of overall talent nationally and in the conference heading into 2020:
