Urban Meyer caught a ton of criticism for how he publicly handled the Zach Smith saga, but his private dealings about the matter apparently weren’t much better.

ESPN’s Dan Le Batard said during his radio show that his agent Trace Armstrong, who used to represent the former Ohio State coach, left Meyer amid the scandal in August. Le Batard claimed Meyer “wasn’t taking advice” from Armstrong while under investigation for his handling of domestic violence accusations against Smith, a former assistant coach.

“(Meyer) was just doing the same thing that he always does — like just being smug, arrogant Urban Meyer,” Le Batard said.

The Buckeyes coach ultimately retired this week, primarily citing health reasons. But his tumultuous season likely played a role in the decision, and losing his agent surely didn’t help matters.

Below, you can listen to Le Batard’s account of Armstrong’s choice to leave Meyer.
