Danny Kanell updates top-8 rankings, lays out 'mayhem' scenario for UCF to make Playoff
The final week of the regular season is upon us, and that means teams have only one or two more opportunities to impress both bowl selection committees and the College Football Playoff committee.
On Sunday morning, analyst (and former Florida State QB) Danny Kanell updated his top-eight rankings, and he had Alabama at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 7.
As you can see below, he also had UCF at No. 6 — which is much higher than the Knights stand in the current Playoff rankings (where they’re No. 11):
The top 4 are starting to look like locks but still lot of football left!! #DKtop8
1. Bama ?♂️
2. Clemson ?3. Notre Dame?
4. Michigan ?5. Washington St ?
6. UCF ?
7. Georgia ?
8. Oklahoma ?— Danny Kanell (@dannykanell) November 18, 2018
Kanell is clearly higher on the Knights than most, but he’s also realistic when it comes to their chances of making the Playoff. Therefore, as you can see below, he laid out a wild mayhem scenario that could give the Knights a shot at the final four:
Don't think UCF has a shot but here is ABSOLUTE MAYHEM that could give them a .003 chance:
1. Bama blows out Georgia in SEC
2. Clemson loses to Pitt in ACC
3. ND loses to USC
4. Michigan/OSU winner loses to Northwestern
5. Wash St loses PAC 12
6. Iowa ST wins Big 12— Danny Kanell (@dannykanell) November 18, 2018
Personally, I’d argue that only No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 need to happen, as Clemson and Notre Dame can go undefeated and not affect UCF’s chances.
However, Kanell’s scenario would be absolute chaos, so we’ll have to see how things unfold the next two weeks.
