Danny Kanell didn’t give much love to the SEC in his weekly top-12 rankings, leaving the perennial powerhouse conference out of his top 5 after a wild Week 10 in college football.

The CBS Sports analyst only had 3 SEC teams among his top 12, beginning with Georgia at No. 6. Even though the Bulldogs are ranked 2nd in the Week 10 AP Poll, he apparently wasn’t too impressed with Georgia fending off rival Florida, 34-20, on Saturday in Jacksonville.

Kanell had Texas 2 spots down from Georgia at No. 8, as the Longhorns had a bye in Week 10 before hosting Florida next Saturday. The only other SEC team in Kanell’s rankings was Tennessee at No. 11. The Volunteers trailed Kentucky, 10-7, at home on Saturday night before getting it together in the 2nd half of a 28-18 victory.

That was it for Kanell, for the SEC at least. The former Florida State quarterback had Oregon at No. 1, after the Ducks methodically took down Michigan in Ann Arbor to stay undefeated at 9-0. At No. 2, Kanell had Miami, which also stayed unbeaten after a brief scare from Duke.

At No. 3 came Indiana, college football’s darling in 2024. The Hoosiers got to 9-0 on Saturday with a road pounding of Michigan State, as Curt Cignetti continues to set the world on fire in his first season in Bloomington. Kanell had BYU at No. 4, ahead of No. 5 Ohio State, which once again broke Penn State’s heart with a dramatic victory in State College on Saturday.

SMU, also one of college football’s best stories of 2024, came in at No. 7 in Kanell’s rankings. Penn State dropped to No. 9 after that loss to Ohio State that knocked the Nittany Lions from the ranks of the unbeaten. Surging Notre Dame, which had a bye in Week 10, was next at No. 10, with Boise State checking in at No. 12 after its Friday night demolition of San Diego State.
