Deion Sanders met with reporters in Boulder on Friday following the Buffs’ blowout win over Oklahoma State.

Colorado is now 9-3 on the season and will need some help to get into the Big 12 Championship Game. Even if the Buffs don’t earn a College Football Playoff berth, though, Sanders said their top players will participate in whatever bowl game Colorado goes to.

Sanders also appeared to take a jab at his alma mater, Florida State, while explaining the reason for that decision.

“Our kids are going to play in our bowl game,” Sanders said. “Because that’s what we signed up to do and we’re going to finish. We’re not going to tap out because that throws off the structure of next season. There’s a couple teams that should take note. They laid an egg in the bowl game and they haven’t recovered since. We don’t plan on doing that.”

Sanders is seemingly referencing what happened to Florida State last season. After the Noles were left out of the Playoff with a 13-0 record in 2023, nearly every starter decided to opt-out of the program’s Orange Bowl appearance. FSU lost to Georgia 66-3 and then won just 1 ACC game in 2024.

Sanders starred at Florida State as a player from 1985-88 before beginning a legendary pro career.

Colorado will have to wait out Saturday’s results to see if it still has a path to the Big 12 title game — and thus the Playoff.
