More eligibility for college athletes? AFCA reportedly endorses interesting new rule for tranfers
One of the biggest hot-button issues in college sports right now is whether transferring players should have to sit out a year or not.
Most fans and players think transfers should be eligible to compete at their new schools immediately, but coaches worry about that causing “free agent” frenzies every offseason.
Therefore, the American Football Coaches Association has come up with a bold new proposal — make transfers sit out a year, but if the player graduates from that school, he would get an extra year of eligibility:
Todd Berry of the American Football Coaches Association says his board has endorsed new transfer proposal: Football transfer would have to sit a year but if he graduates at new school would get an extra year of eligibility — essentially six years to play five.

That means we could have players sticking around five years with two different schools — an interesting idea, to say the least.
Fans may not be as on board for that proposal as they would be for players to be eligible right away, but this issue likely won’t be decided before the 2018 season, so more discussion will be forthcoming.
