Tom Luginbill made a somewhat bold proclamation Monday afternoon when asked to evaluate the best quarterbacks from the SEC. Reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year Jalen Hurts didn’t make the cut.

Reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year Jalen Hurts didn’t make Luginbill’s cut. During his appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show, Luginbill announced that he believes Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald and South Carolina’s Jake Bentley are the best QB’s in the SEC.

Paul Finebaum tweeted the comment:

Selecting Fitzgerald is understandable. Fitzgerald is a rising junior who accounted for 3,807 yards of total offense and 37 TD’s as a sophomore.

Bentley’s selection, on the other hand, is likely to raise some eyebrows. Bentley did throw for 1,420 yards and nine TD’s in just seven games as a true freshman, but it is who Luginbill omitted that is confusing.

Placing Bentley ahead of reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year Jalen Hurts is a tough call and one that is sure to draw some criticism. Many also believe new Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham will be a strong pick for best QB in the conference and Arkansas fans have a right ask how Austin Allen didn’t make the list?
