Rumors strongly seem to suggest that Will Muschamp will get a second shot at being a head coach in the SEC. And ESPN’s College GameDay crew strongly disapproves.

Three of the analysts on the panel, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and David Pollack, all gave their take on the potential hire and questioned the rationale. Howard is interested in sitting down for a conversation with athletic director Ray Tanner.

“It’s interesting to think Muschamp, maybe five or six years ago, was in Texas being groomed for the Texas job, got the Florida job, had unlimited resources, that didn’t work out, went to Auburn, made a bad defense worse and now he’s a lead candidate at South Carolina,” Howard said. “I would just like to talk to the AD and say, ‘What are you looking for in your next coach?'”

Pollack, a former Georgia linebacker who was intense as any on the field, isn’t sure Muschamp’s fire translates to the head position.

“The Muschamp thing for me is, if you watch the Alabama game, the sideline demeanor,” Pollack said. “It’s so aggressive and I like that maybe if he’s my defensive coordinator, but the head coach you have to show a little restraint for the kids. His personality is so aggressive and intense.”

Davis also questioned how quickly Muschamp would be given another shot at being a head coach.

“This would certainly be a rare second chance in very short order if the Gamecocks do decide to go with Will Muschamp,” said Davis, who did defend Muschamp slightly by adding, “To be fair, Auburn did show some progress on defense as the season went along.”
