Heading into the season, everyone tries to predict how many teams from each conference will go bowling

When it comes to the SEC bowl field, almost everyone is updating their projections after a surprising Week 1. While Missouri was already out of bowl contention barring an overturn of its bowl ban, Week 1 losses by Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee certainly shook up the outlook for those clubs. Arkansas, a team hoping to get back to the postseason in 2019, did not inspire much confidence beating FCS Portland State by only one score (20-13).

ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach did their best to project the bowl field after Week 1. While they agree that the top of the conference is still strong, they’re not sure whether Ole Miss and South Carolina will be able to get to six wins.

Both an SEC team playing for the national championship (Alabama – Bonagura; Georgia – Schlabach). Here’s where the other SEC squads are projected to play this postseason:

Alabama:

Auburn:

Florida:

  • Gator Bowl vs. Iowa (Schlabach)

Georgia:

Kentucky:

  • Music City Bowl vs. Virginia (Bonagura)
