ESPN experts update bowl projections following Week 4 action
Through four weeks of the 2018 season, we’re starting to get a good idea of who will compete for a bowl berth this year and who won’t.
In the SEC, we know that Ole Miss is out, and ESPN experts Kyle Bonagura and Mitch Sherman also don’t think Tennessee or Vanderbilt will be playing this postseason (though Sherman somehow still has Arkansas projected to play in a bowl game).
In their updated bowl projections, you can see where they think the 11 SEC squads will be playing this postseason.
It’s worth noting that Sherman thinks both Alabama and Georgia will make the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row:
Alabama
- Cotton Bowl (CFP) vs. Oklahoma (Bonagura)
- Cotton Bowl (CFP) vs. Georgia (Sherman)
Arkansas
- None (Bonagura)
- Dollar General Bowl vs. Eastern Michigan (Sherman)
Auburn
- Citrus Bowl vs. Michigan (Bonagura)
- Citrus Bowl vs. Wisconsin (Sherman)
Florida
- Gator Bowl vs. Minnesota (Bonagura)
- Music City Bowl vs. Virginia (Sherman)
Georgia
- Sugar Bowl vs. West Virginia (Bonagura)
- Cotton Bowl (CFP) vs. Alabama (Sherman)
Kentucky
- Music City Bowl vs. Boston College (Bonagura)
- Outback Bowl vs. Michigan (Sherman)
LSU
- Peach Bowl vs. UCF (Bonagura)
- Sugar Bowl vs. Oklahoma (Sherman)
Mississippi State
- Outback Bowl vs. Michigan State (Bonagura)
- Belk Bowl vs. Duke (Sherman)
Mizzou
- Liberty Bowl vs. TCU (Bonagura)
- Gator Bowl vs. Michigan State (Sherman)
South Carolina
- Belk Bowl vs. Duke (Bonagura)
- Texas Bowl vs. Texas Tech (Sherman)
Texas A&M
- Texas Bowl vs. Texas (Bonagura)
- Liberty Bowl vs. Oklahoma State (Sherman)
The Arkansas one is almost certainly a typo on ESPN. I an 99% sure they meant Arkansas State (whose conference has a bowl tie-in with that bowl so it makes sense). Plus Arkansas will be at 3-9 at best.
Agreed. There is no way Arkansas goes to a bowl game this season. They are at best 1-7 in conference play.
There is also no way that Alabama and Georgia meet in the first round of the playoffs, in a rematch of the SECCG. Either the SECCG loser gets the 3 seed, or they don’t get in at all, assuming that the SEC champ is the #1 seed. There is no way we’ll get a first round rematch. The worst nightmare is undefeated UCF sitting there, and national sentiment united against two SEC teams again this year.
Are these guys really experts?
no im sorry but we gotta send yall back to the poud no disrespect yall qb not that good tbh.
Sherman is a very reliable source.
I would love any bowl in a Florida I just want to be there!
