ESPN FPI updates top 25 after Rivalry Week
The 2019 regular season is officially in the books, and what a wild Rivalry Weekend to end on.
Auburn upset Alabama 48-45 in one of the most epic Iron Bowls in history. That, of course, ends Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes. ESPN’s Football Power Index, however, still ranks Alabama at No. 3 in the nation despite two losses.
The FPI is described as the following on its website:
The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.
Elsewhere, LSU destroyed Texas A&M; Georgia hammered Georgia Tech; Florida dismantled FSU. The Tigers and Bulldogs will play in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday for a Playoff spot.
All total, six SEC teams are ranked in the top 17, including five of the top seven. Below is how ESPN ranks the top 25 following Rivalry Week:
1. Ohio State
11. Penn State
14. Notre Dame
17. Texas A&M
20. Iowa State
25. Boise State
