ESPN creates 'best fictional coach' graphic featuring legendary high school football coach Herman Boone
Someone at ESPN apparently doesn’t know the meaning of the word “fictional” based on this graphic.
We can help out with that, as fictional refers to an author’s creation, typically made to tell a story.
Coach Herman Boone is not fictional, he very much existed and coached for T. C. Williams High School in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
He even arranged a preseason trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, just like in the “Remember the Titans” movie.
Here is the graphic ESPN put out featuring the best fictional coaches with Coach Boone featured as the first coach on the list.
The reactions to the graphic were pretty good:
Uh, Herman Boone was an actual person https://t.co/2eP7fneMQ6

Years ago I heard Herman Boone speak and then met Herman Boone, and man he apparently fooled me into thinking he was an actual real person! https://t.co/lGUYOFAkZg

L.O.L funny that you guys claim to be the world wide leader in sports but categorized Herman Boone, a real life person, as a ficional movie character.

After receiving so many responses, ESPN deleted the original graphic and replaced Coach Boone with Danny O’Shea from the “Little Giants” in the graphic below.
OK let’s try this again.
We meant “movie coach." pic.twitter.com/OYSTddcY5k
