Is the day coming when college basketball players decide to boycott the NCAA Tournament or Final Four? At least two ESPN personalities are calling for it to happen.

Ironically, both Jay Williams and Jalen Rose had the opportunity to boycott the tournament during their college careers but didn’t decide to go that route. Now that both are onto their post-playing careers and making good money working for ESPN, which profits from coverage of the NCAA Tournament, both are calling for players to display their bargaining power and boycott the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Williams even uses “WE” while delivering his message to the players. While it’s unclear what, if anything, Williams is offering to boycott or surrender, he’s happy to tell the players what they should be doing — although he had the same opportunity and did not do during his playing career at Duke:

Rose offered up a similar take during a recent ESPN segment. Rose’s Michigan team went to multiple Final Fours during his career and he played in each of those games:

While the current college basketball players have the right to exercise their options as they see fit, it seems odd to have former players calling for reform and action to be taken when they themselves had the opportunity to do the same and failed to do so.

Will the day come when college players sit out the Final Four?
