ESPN power ranks the future of the SEC
Alabama is the defending national champion, a popular pick for preseason No. 1, and, according to ESPN, ready to compete for the next three seasons.
ESPN recently unveiled its “future power rankings” described as how strong a program will be over the next three years. Seven SEC teams make the top 20, with the Crimson Tide leading the way.
- Alabama (No. 1)
- LSU (No. 6)
- Florida (No. 11)
- Georgia (No. 12)
- Tennessee (No. 14)
- Auburn (No. 18)
- Ole Miss (No. 20)
The list seems to favor what many would traditionally label each division’s Big 3, with Ole Miss being noted for staying power beyond a loaded 2013 class.
One big question, however, could be will two of the above teams’ coaches be around for the next three years. Auburn and LSU could both be in the market for new head coaches after this season according to one CBS Sports analyst.

Did any SEC schools get overlooked? How would you rank the futures of the seven teams above?
Even though UGA is #1 in recruiting…
This is a serious question; where are you seeing that? Of the four major recruiting services, I can see two of them(rivals’ website is borked for me in 3 browsers and ESPN wants money), and on Scout and 247 it shows tOSU, Bama, UGA. And no offense, but there’s a much bigger gap between the first two and UGA, and UGA and the next team, Oklahoma. Do Rivals and ESPN have UGA over Bama and tOSU?
I honestly don’t know where he’s getting that at. I follow recruiting hard, and I haven’t seen that anywhere. I mean I would love to see it! But it’s not there. There’s no doubt that Kirby has a lot of recruiting momentum right now, but we’re a long ways from #1 at the moment. Who knows, maybe we’ll get there though
Vols fan all the way here…but even I will admit no one is #1 in recruiting every single year but Nick Saban’s Alabama.
Not sure where you got that. I admire the passion and confidence. heh.
Thanks for that. I always appreciate other fans who can look at things beyond the rivalries. And for the record, I think UT is probably tied with LSU for 2nd best team in the SEC right now, and that one is me copping out of trying to call it.
As for Nick Saban’s recruiting, I think the thing to remember is that he picks guys that he wants, not just “kid with a bunch of recruiting hype”. And I think that, for the most part, he gets a #1 class every year according to his own rankings, which are the ones that matter to him. We may finish behind tOSU this next cycle, but I won’t care, because Nick will get what he wants and needs. He’ll never have to just take what he can get. There are only a few programs that have that level of recruiting.
I live in Georgia and can tell you that most Georgia fans think that they are always number one at everything. You just have to giggle and move on.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see tennesse move up if they have the season folks are predicting. Should see a spike in recruiting if so.
Hope you are right buzzy, hope you’re right!
Ga 12? I hope they are right.
