ESPN is in talks to extend a TV deal with the College Football Playoff, according to college football insider Pete Thamel.

The current deal is set to expire after the 2025 season. ESPN originally signed a 12-year contract at the inception of the CFP.

The discussed deal would include the 2 final years of the current deal with 6 additional years added in, per Thamel’s report. This is notable as the CFP will expand from 4 to 12 teams after this season. While nothing has been finalized and negotiations are ongoing, the report indicates that ESPN is considering paying approximately $1.3 billion for the rights to the new 6-year deal starting in the 2026 season.

CFP executive director Bill Hancock said the committee is “happy with where we are” in the negotiation process.

“I have to say, this is a negotiation, and so I’m not going to be able to tell you much about it,” Hancock told ESPN. “We’re happy with where we are and not quite to the finish line yet.”

The final 4-team CFP will come to an end on Monday when the Washington Huskies and Michigan Wolverines face off.
