In many ways, Lee Corso is College GameDay.

On Wednesday, ESPN announced that it had signed Corso to a multiyear deal to remain on college football’s premier pregame show, and he is the only remaining original contributor to the show since 1987. That’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

“I reflect on my 30 years at ESPN and continue to count my blessings each time I walk on the College GameDay set,” said Corso in a statement. “The fans keep me energized, and being surrounded by such a talented and dynamic GameDay crew is the best medicine for this old coach.”

The headgear picks have become legendary in a sense because we all tune in to the end of the show for the picks, and according to GameDayCole.com, a website that tracks Corso’s headgear picks, he’s 182-93 as of last November. In fact, Corso’s 300th headgear pick will come in week six of the 2017 season.

“Coach Corso has been the mainstay on College GameDay since the beginning and we couldn’t imagine the show without him,” said Lee Fitting, ESPN senior coordinating producer in a statement. “Arguably, nobody has done as much for the popularity of college football over the past 30 years than Coach Corso. His dedication, preparation and unwavering love for College GameDay and its fans is so powerful and we are lucky to call him ours.”

Corso joined ESPN in 1987 after 28 years as a coach, and although his health has been discussed in recent years, he’s always been grateful for the fans, viewers and co-analysts on the show.
