College football fans won’t need to wait until September to get their first taste of action this season.

There are games on Aug. 28, and one of them, the MEAC/SWAC Challenge will be the featured game and destination for ESPN’s College GameDay, Alcorn State against N.C. Central. The popular pregame Saturday morning show will air from Atlanta ahead of the game.

The Challenge is an annual game that features teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). It was launched in 2005 and is typically played on Labor Day Weekend, the matchup was held for its first three years at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2008, the event moved to Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Fla. In 2016, the Challenge started a two year period of playing at campus sites.

It’s now at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, and is a bookend for the annual Celebration Bowl in December.

The Challenge offers a nice appetizer to the next weekend, which will feature Alabama against Miami, Georgia against Clemson, Notre Dame against Florida State, and Ole Miss against Louisville.
