ESPN’s FPI is updating the odds to win the 2024 national championship coming out of Week 3 of the season. Though the heart of conference play is still ahead, there have already been some intriguing results in the early portion of the season.

According to the latest FPI odds, only 3 teams have greater than a 10% chance of winning the title. The heavy favorite through 3 weeks of the season is Texas at 22.1%.

The Longhorns have looked great to open the year, though the team suffered a disappointing setback with an injury to star quarterback Quinn Ewers in Week 3. The good news is backup QB Arch Manning looked great after replacing Ewers.

The other teams above 10% at this point in the season are Alabama and Ohio State in the 2nd and 3rd slots, respectively. Ohio State was idle in Week 3 but the Crimson Tide blew out Wisconsin in Madison to reach 3-0.

Remarkably, Georgia — the preseason No. 1 team in the country — checked in at 5th in the updated title odds, trailing the 3 aforementioned teams and even Tennessee. Josh Heupel’s Vols were given the 4th-best odds per the FPI at 9.2% while the Bulldogs are given an 8.3% chance after a narrow 1-point win over Kentucky.

Ole Miss and Miami are the only other programs above 3% odds to win it all through Week 3. Here are those updated odds:

  • Texas — 22.1%
  • Alabama — 18.4%
  • Ohio State — 14.4%
  • Tennessee — 9.2%
  • Georgia — 8.3%
  • Ole Miss — 7.3%
  • Miami — 3.3%

These odds are bound to change as we exit September and hit the heart of conference action, but those are some interesting lines, to say the least. Fans can track the latest betting odds and get in on the action with SDS’s apps to bet on sports.
